For much of Haiti’s existence, it has seen nothing but world exploitation and corrupt political upheaval. However, Gessica Geneus’ film FREDA seeks to explore the people who live in these harsh climates, and the stories that tether them to the culture. Hearing of Gessica’s film through various social media outlets, I instantly felt a need to support her and the film. It sheds a tremendous light on those dealing with the ramifications of a government that has all but forgotten them, under the auspices of love, family, and country.
FREDA has become a glowing beacon to many Haitians and furthermore the diaspora worldwide. Meeting and interviewing Gessica Geneus was a great pleasure for me. She is extremely passionate and resonates profoundly with the themes of her film. I am truly proud to have gained another sister in film, and more than confident that she will succeed in her career as an artist, filmmaker, and lover of Haitian culture.
