SVP, Head of Business & Legal Affairs, OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network
As the daughter of Jamaican immigrants, Karen was born and raised in Miami, where she received her Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing from the University of Miami. After college, she then continued on to the University of Southern California’s Gould School of Law where she received her Juris Doctor degree.
Karen currently serves as the head of the business and legal affairs department at OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network. In addition to negotiating talent, production and license deals for both scripted and unscripted programming, her role includes overseeing OWN standards & practices, international sales, intellectual property, human resources, union administration, insurance, participations, rights management and risk assessment
Prior to joining OWN, Karen handled business and legal affairs for companies such as DreamWorks Animation, ITV Studios America, Maker Studios, Universal Pictures, Live Nation Productions, AMC Networks and NBCUniversal. She began her transactional career in private practice at Del Shaw Moonves Tanaka Finkelstein & Lezcano.
Additionally, Karen is a member of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, the British Academy of Film & Television Arts (LA) and is on the Board of Councilors for the USC Gould School of Law.
